The Karna scholarship owes its origin to the vision of sons and daughters of Indian soil, who want to recognize and award all round excellence to students of the Indian school system. The idea is to encourage individuals showing all round excellence. It is not meant to address or reward the "book-worms" or provide preferential treatment on extraneous considerations.

It all started with a grain of an idea. And right at home. Karna began a small-scale pilot initiative with the objective of reaching children from the under-privileged section of society, so they could have access to after school education assistance as well as free access to computer literacy. Since its inception in 2006 “hOMeshakti” has grown from one center to five in less than three years, with plans to expand to 10 such schools by the end of 2012.
Rural Welfare & Development Advances in healthcare and education which are accessible to people in the urban sprawl are not available to those in the rural areas. Lack of infrastructure – roads, electricity, healthcare, hygiene and educational facilities – leave them in an unenviable position. Corruption and lack of vision in the bureaucratic circles and absence of empathy amongst the intelligentsia has led to a multitude of problems amongst the rural folks.
Kooba Post-Graduate College (est. 1957) is situated at the southern border of District Azamgarh in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. The College was founded by Shri Suraj Nath Singh, a veteran freedom fighter and an accomplished and eminent lawyer of Allahabad High Court. Shri Suraj Nath Singh was from the nearby village of Mahuapar. He understood the long-term social implications of providing quality education to the local population and strongly felt that an institution of higher learning near the village would have a positive impact on the community.
