Established at BHU for girl students in the name of Mrs. Savitri Singh, who distinguished herself as a student of transparent character and integrity, firmly rooted in the finest traditions of Indian culture, by her son Mr. Piyush Singh. The scholarship is available to students joining the bachelor's program and residing in the Women's Hostel.

Mrs. Savitri Singh did her Bachelor of Arts in 1955 and Master of Arts (Hindi) in 1957 from the Banaras Hindu University, staying all along in the Women's hostel. She was married to Shri Prakash Singh, one of the distinguished police officers of the country and was a key support to his diverse and hectic career.. As a mother, she gave the best possible instructions to her two sons, Pankaj Kumar Singh and Piyush Kumar Singh, inculcating among them the highest values of morality and Indian culture.

Mrs Savitri Singh made her distinctive contribution to society as well. She was a key person in various women's welfare units across the country supporting the cause of women. She also taught for more than ten years in different colleges in Bareilly, Jhansi, Agra and Jalandhar. While in J & K, she took pains to teach Hindi to the Muslims there so as to help bring them into the national mainstream. Presently, she is teaching the under-privileged children of a school in NOIDA. Her unique style of teaching - combining the course content with moral and practical values of life - have earned her many ardent followers and shaped some brilliant careers.

Piyush has always been inspired by the very high moral and spiritual values that she personifies. He is currently an Executive with an Insurance company in mid-west. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) with his wife, Sangeeta, and two sons, Abhimanyu and Aditya.

Piyush has set up the scholarship to honor his mother's tremendous contribution to his self, all the members of the family and also the numerous children educated by her, many of whom have already made their mark in life.
