The scholarship is available to students entering the bachelor's program in the Arts faculty.

Shri Prakash Singh did his Bachelor of Arts in 1955 from Allahabad University with English Literature, Economics and Mathematics as his subjects and later took Masters degree in Modern Indian History in 1957. He also did a short stint as Assistant Professor of History until his selection to the Indian Police Service in 1959.

Shri Prakash Singh, at the peak of his career, became the Director General of Police Assam, Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh and Director General of the Border Security Force. He dealt with the insurgents in Nagaland, tackled the ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) rebels in Assam, fought against terrorism in Punjab and contributed to combating militancy in Jammu & Kashmir. The Government of India, in recognition of his contribution to national security, awarded him the 'Padmashri' in 1991.

Piyush has always been inspired by the ideals and the high standards set by his father. He is currently an Executive with an Insurance company in mid-west. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) with his wife, Sangeeta, and two sons, Abhimanyu and Aditya.

Piyush has set up the scholarship as a tribute to his father's brilliant career and his contribution to the country to help and inspire the upcoming generation of students of the Allahabad University.
